
Dealing with Heat in Wet Zones: Why IP65 Matters
If you’ve ever tried to warm up a damp room or an outdoor area with a standard heater, you know the struggle. You’re basically just heating the air, and the second a breeze hits or a door opens, all that warmth vanishes. It’s a waste of money. That’s why we use short-wave infrared. Instead of fighting the air, it goes straight for the target. It hits your skin or the surface you’re aiming at instantly. It feels like stepping into a patch of sunlight on a cold day. But when you’re dealing with water and electricity, you can’t wing it. You need an IP65 rating. Plain and simple. It means the guts of the heater are sealed tight against dust and those annoying low-pressure water sprays that happen in wet rooms.
How it actually works
The science is pretty straightforward. These emitters get incredibly hot, sending out radiation that sinks deep into whatever it touches. There’s no “warm-up” period where you’re standing around shivering. You flip the switch, and within seconds, you’re feeling the heat.
The build (and the catch)
To keep these things from rusting out or shorting over a few months, we tuck the quartz tubes into a chassis that doesn’t care about corrosion. We also use heavy-duty gaskets. Without them, moisture creeps into the terminals, and that’s how you get a dead heater and a very bad day. One thing to watch out for: power. High-wattage units feel amazing—that “luxury” warmth—but they can create some pretty intense hotspots. If you’re installing these in a tight space, don’t mount them too low. You want people to feel warm, not scorched.
A few things to keep in mind
Wiring these into a commercial setup takes a bit of planning. IR heaters pull a massive amount of power the moment they kick on. Make sure your breakers can handle that initial surge, or you’ll be tripping them all day. And just a heads-up: IP65 is great for splashes, but it’s not a submarine. If you mount these too low in an area where you’re using high-pressure hoses for wash-downs, the seals will eventually give up. Just keep an eye on the gaskets every now and then. A quick check ensures everything stays watertight and keeps working exactly like it should.
