Changing rooms and showers are a pain to heat. You need that instant blast of warmth for someone stepping out of a shower, but you’re dealing with splashes and steam. It’s a recipe for a short circuit if you aren’t careful. That’s why we lean on shortwave infrared (SWIR) and wrap everything in an IPX4-rated shell.
Why shortwave?
Most heaters try to warm up the air. The problem is, in a cold, damp room, the air just sucks that heat away before you even feel it. Our lamps work differently. They use a tungsten filament inside a quartz tube that beams energy directly onto the person. It doesn’t mess around with the air; it just hits the skin.**It’s fast. Dealing with the damp
The “IPX4” part is just a fancy way of saying the unit can handle water splashing at it from any angle. We make this happen by sealing the electrical joints tight and using heavy-duty gaskets around the housing. You can put these in high-humidity spots or areas where a few splashes are bound to happen, and you won’t have to worry about the whole thing popping a fuse. Inside, we use connectors that can take the heat. Quartz tubes expand when they get hot, so the wiring has to be flexible and heat-resistant. Otherwise, the terminals would just burn out during a heavy load.
A few things to keep in mind
These units are great because they pack a lot of heat into a tiny footprint. If you’ve got a luxury locker room with old, clunky radiators, these are a perfect swap. But there’s a catch: shortwave heat is intense. It’s directional. If you mount them too low or too close to the user, it’ll feel like a heat lamp at a buffet—too much, too fast. You’ve got to get the height and the angle just right based on the wattage so it feels like a comfortable glow, not a burn. One last tip for the electricians: make sure your circuit breakers can handle the initial “inrush” current when those halogen lamps kick on. If you don’t, you’ll be replacing tripped breakers all day.
