
Getting the Heat Right for Mobile Glass Repair
When you’re building brackets for mobile glass repair, you’re fighting a constant battle for space. You’ve got strict voltage limits and almost no room to move. You can’t just slap a giant heater in there and call it a day. You need a ton of power packed into a tiny footprint. That’s why we go with clear quartz infrared tubes. Dealing with power and heat Mobile power is messy. You’re often dealing with weird power sources or hard voltage ceilings. If you aren’t careful, you’ll blow a fuse before the resin even gets warm. To fix this, we get really picky about the filament. By using a shorter tube with a concentrated tungsten filament, we can cram more wattage into a smaller area. It’s the only way to get that intense blast of IR radiation needed to get those resins moving quickly. Why clear quartz? We stick with clear quartz because it doesn’t hold anything back. There’s no coating blocking the energy, so the heat hits the glass surface the second you flip the switch. Plus, it’s tough. These tubes can handle the shock of being turned on and off rapidly without cracking. We also use standard end-caps, which makes life a lot easier for the techs in the field when they need a quick replacement. The catch: Managing the meltdown Here’s the thing: when you pack that much heat into a small space, the surrounding gear feels it. If you put a 500W tube into a 150mm space, your housing is going to soak up all that energy. If you use cheap materials, your frame will warp. You’ve got to use heat-resistant alloys or ceramic spacers to keep everything straight. And please, use high-temp leads for the wiring. If a wire touches that quartz envelope, the insulation will melt in minutes. Keep it tight, but give the tube enough room to breathe.
