If you’re still relying on traditional oven annealing, you know the pain. You’ve got your glass formed and ready, but then everything grinds to a halt while it sits in a slow-cooling chamber. It’s a massive bottleneck. We do things differently. We use shortwave infrared (SWIR) lamps to bring the annealing process right onto the production line. No more stopping, no more waiting. Just a steady, continuous flow. Why this actually works Here’s the thing about shortwave infrared: it doesn’t waste time heating up the air around the glass. Instead, the energy punches straight through the surface. It’s fast. Really fast. You can hit your annealing point in a matter of seconds. Because the heat transfer is so direct, you get a sharp temperature jump without ruining the shape of your piece. Packing in the power To keep a line moving at speed, you need a lot of heat in a small space. We use high-wattage quartz elements to keep that thermal flux concentrated. The upside? Your heating tunnel can be much smaller, saving you a ton of floor space. But a heads-up: this much power puts a real strain on your electrical system. You’ll want to double-check that your wiring and controllers can handle the sudden surge of current when you flip the switch. Nobody likes a blown fuse in the middle of a shift. Keeping things running We didn’t want you spending hours on maintenance, so we made these lamps easy to swap. They use standard connectors, so when a tube burns out, you just pull it and pop in a new one. No need to tear apart the whole housing. Just be careful. The quartz is tough against heat but brittle as hell. Keep it clean. If you leave fingerprints or oil on the glass, it creates a hot spot, and that’s how you get a cracked tube. The catch Now, there is a trade-off. When you’re dealing with this kind of speed, thermal shock is a real risk. If you blast ice-cold glass with full intensity, it’ll probably shatter. You have to find the sweet spot with your conveyor speed and power stages to make the temperature climb feel natural for the glass. Get the timing wrong, and you’re just making expensive scrap.
